Between the towns of Ascona and Brissago, washed by the waters of Lago Maggiore are the Islands of Brissago.
The two islands of Brissago are visible from the harbour of Ascona
A 20 minute long cruise brings you there to explore a world botanical garden.
Almost there
Flowers in the African botanical garden
Behind the coastline dotted with green hills…
… fenced by sun dried canes,
here are the white beaches of Rosignano Solvay.
Follow the white river to reach them,
and have a bath in its “Blue flagged” waters
but don’t look behind the white dunes.
The coloration comes from the carotenoid pigments in the organisms that live in their feeding grounds.
Flamingos were among the most prized in Ancient Roman cuisine: “phoenicopteri linguam praecipui saporis esse apicius docuit”
The one-legged pose can be held without any muscle activity
Using its feet, the bird stirs up the mud, then sucks water through its bill
Flamingos can travel to the distance of 600 kilometers in one night for migration with the speed of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.
