What do you know about Schwingfest 2013 in Trub (Switzerland) ?
Trub is a town in the upper region of Emmental.

Emmental is a Swiss valley that names the cheese you probably know.

Schwingen is a Swiss traditional sport, similar to catch.

Fighters score points with special combos in a time of 5 minutes.

The fight ends by knocking down the opponents on their back.

The winner becomes the king of the Schwingfest!

Last but not least beauty is an important part of the festival!

If you pass by Switzerland between May and August get the chance to watch the fighters of a Schwingfest! Watch the full reportage on our flickr.com channel by clicking here.

Of notorious red birds and broken twigs at Masoala Rain Forest Zurich
I know it is childish giving human feelings to animals… However, the recent notoriety this broken red bird acquired pushed me to entirely unveil its bad mood of that day. It’s a pity I cannot document if its apparent shower was voluntary or not. Click on the post picture to magnify
Nikon D800 and infrared photography? I have my doubts it works
I had some single wavelength filters to test today on my D800. I read around infrared photography is still possible with D800, although all modern DSLR cameras do have UV and IR filters mounted in front of the sensor. See by yourself in the post picture: in the infrared area (above 710 nm) I do not see what I expected, i.e. white leaves due to reflected infrared light. Do you have any suggestion? Exposure times until 20 secs, ISO up to 1400, lens 50 mm f/1.4G. Did you test IR on D800 by yourself? Click below for a panel with the full pictures, sky inclusive.
